Cafe XXII Pyrmont

When I used to live in Pyrmont back in the good old days, I often come to Cafe XXII for breakfast, dinner, or dessert (the cafe is located behind the Star City casino). I never tried their lunch till 3 weeks ago. I had to go to Pyrmont for work & decided to drop by for lunch to refresh my memory about the cafe. My fave lunch menu is the Spaghetti Meatballs with pecorino cheese. I forgot my camera & my phone was dying too.

The following week I came back with my friend & ordered the same stuff again, i.e. the spaghetti meatballs & this time I brought my baby camera.

Staffs are very helpful & attentive, and I still see the same bubbly waiter that I saw about 2-3 years ago. He is the best & he does brilliant coffee.

The Big breakfast - sausage, hash brown, bacon, 2 poached eggs, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and toasts.
The yummylicious Spaghetti Meatballs with pecorino cheese - al dente spaghetti, flavoursome tomato based sauce & juicy meatballs.
The ultimate meatballs

Spaghetti ala Orange

I love this simple dish, it is really easy to make/ to get the ingredients. I would say the key of this dish is to get good (fresh of course) tomatoes & basil. Cheap white wine will do the job, if you have no white wine, don't panic, it will still taste good.
this recipe is approximately for 4 people.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pack of Spaghetti
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Garlic 4 cloves - chopped finely
  • 2 cups of Button/ Brown Mushroom sliced
  • Black Pepper
  • Lemon juice from 1/4 lemon
  • A handful of pitted olive
  • 5 Roma/ Vine riped tomato sliced into quarters
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
  • 1-2 red little chilli sliced
  • 100ml White wine (if you have, otherwise just use water)
  • 3-4 stalks of Fresh Basil, only use the leaves, tear them apart

Method - spaghetti :
Please follow the instructions from your spaghetti pack, however, spaghetti needs to be 3/4 cooked (if the pack says cook spaghetti for 10 minutes - just cook it for 7 minutes so you won't overcook your spaghetti when you mix it with the sauce).
Drained spaghetti with strainer.

Method - sauce :
  1. Heat 1.5 table spoon of olive oil in the wok, stir fry garlic till fragrant
  2. Pour in mushroom, chilli, olive
  3. Pour in white wine and honey
  4. Cook for about 5-10 mins, till mushroom change colour
  5. Turn off the heat, toss in fresh basil and lemon juice
  6. Pour in spaghetti into sauce, mix well
I accidentally deleted the picture - will take another picture when I cook this dish.
